2015 Battle Creek Speedfest Recap

The first Battle Creek Speedfest, held in conjunction with the 2015 Battle Creek Field of Flight Air & Balloon Show, is in the books.  It was a picture perfect weekend for racing and seeing one the best air shows in the country.  This 3 day head to head half-mile shootout was held at the W.K Kellogg airport, located about an hour and a half west of Detroit.  Participants came from near and as far as Arizona to compete to see who had the fastest vehicle in the Midwest.

The Battle Field of Flight Air & Balloon show is one of the largest and longest running in the country.  This year, we were treated to performances by the F-22/P-51 Mustang, Ace formation aerobatic team, the Firebirds, Immortals Extreme Air Show act and the award winning Rob Holland in the MXS, just to name a few.  A fan favorite was the Vlaso Lenoch USAF heritage flight with the F-22 & P-51.  There was also a hot air balloon championship that brought many from all over the country to compete.  There were also attractions outside of the air show for all ages to enjoy, such as live music, ultimate air dog competitions, carnival rides and games.  It was topped off with amazing local food and two nights of fireworks.  What more could you ask for?

Fast cars?  Adrenaline pumping speed?  Heart stopping head to head competition?  All of these things complement the excitement of the airshow perfectly, and the Battle Creek Speedfest provided all of that and more.  Vehicles of all makes and models had the chance to show who was the fastest in a half-mile, gaining bragging rights to carry on for other events, and of course for the 2016 Speedfest.  We had cars from Arizona, Canada, and all over the Midwest come to prove they were the best.  After it was all said and done, Craig Statham took the top honors with an impressive 182.2mph run.  Craig came to us from Canada and definitely gave the spectators a good show.

This was our first go, and we are very pleased with the results.  We had a short time between approval and actual event, so to have as many cars and buzz around the event as we did felt like a huge win in our book.  Planning for 2016 is already underway, and we can’t wait to make it even better than 2015.  We will have the addition of a professional quality timing system, run by the best team in the business, which will give instantaneous results for each driver.  We plan to see a large number of participants and an even more exotic collection of cars to compete in this exciting event.

Please check out our Facebook page, follow us on Instagram, and keep an eye out for our brand new website for up to date information.  Registration will open in early 2016.  We will also have contact information for those who wish to sponsor or be a vendor at the event, showcasing goods to over 100,000 spectators.  Don’t miss this exciting opportunity!

Congratulations to Craig on being the fastest vehicle of the weekend with his Nissan GTR running an impressive 182.2mph.  Driven from Toronto Canada.
